What is a Habit?

Definition: regularly repeated behavior pattern – emotionally, physically and mentally

Godly habits lead us to the Grace of God.

This week I want to talk about stewardship. Creating a habit of managing your time, talents and most of all your treasures that God has allowed you to have.

“Use your God given resources to accomplish a God given purpose.”

Two principles of stewardship:

  1. God owns it all

Psalm 24:1-2

Basic principle of Stewardship: God owns we manage.

Psalm 50:8-11

The ultimate reminder that God owns everything – Death

Ecclesiastes 5:15

  1. Spend less than you earn for a long time and you will be financially wealthy.

Stewardship is a habit!

Why generosity should not always be spontaneous:

1 – Spontaneous giving creates a budget breaker.

2 – Spontaneous generosity is NOT a biblical norm.

Leviticus 19:9-10

God has given the people a system to intentionally form a habit of taken care of the poor.

Nehemiah 10:31

1Corinthians 16:1-2

Paul is instructing the churches to plan for generosity.

Tithing is the biblical emphasis for generosity.

Genesis 28:20-22

Leviticus 27:30-33

Malachi 3:8-9

God is telling us that the first 10% of our first fruits belong to him! If we do not give it to him we are robbing him and are under a curse. The first 10% of your money will bring upon you a blessing or a curse. The choice is yours.

In the NT Jesus raises the standard

Matthew 23:23

Do not ignore your relationship with God

Do not ignore your responsibility to the church

3 reasons to tithe your money:

1 – God said so!

2 – Builds your treasures in Heaven

3 – Keeps your heart right with God

I Timothy 5:8

There is an economic phenomenon when it comes to generosity.

“Generosity makes you rich.”

Proverbs 11:24

What does Jesus say?

Luke 6:38

There is an economic phenomenon when it comes to tithing.

Malachi 3:10-12

I believe that we can trust God with our money. (His Money)

Challenge:

I want you to commit to tithing for the next three months.

Let the Holy Spirit guide you.

Did God give you your life?

Did God give you talents?

You do not have a hard time using those to advance the Kingdom, why should it be any different with your money? God gave you that too!!

Let’s accept the challenge God gave us and become a blessed church!!
